HUGH DAVIES
Hugh Davies leads on Hydra’s clients in the telecoms, media and technology sectors. He has held senior in-house roles in these industries, as well as advising them from leading communications groups.
Hugh was most recently Director of Corporate Communications at Three, the UK’s first 3G mobile operator. He spent almost 10 years leading the campaigning and communications to take the internet mobile, pressing for regulatory change and telling the story behind the mobile data revolution.
Previously at Microsoft, Hugh was UK Head of Public Relations, helping to build understanding of the company’s growing software product portfolio and ensuring it was seen as a credible partner for both UK businesses and the public sector. He managed major campaigns and the visits of senior executives including Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer.
Earlier, Hugh worked for international PR and advertising firms, in Europe and Asia, including Hill+Knowlton and Cohn & Wolfe, within the WPP Group, and the multi award-winning advertising agency Leo Burnett, where he was responsible for integrated brand communications campaigns for global consumer brands in the Auto, FMCG and TMT sectors.
Hugh’s initial career was as a business and technology journalist working for publications in the UK and Asia. In his spare time, he wrote science and technology stories, as a freelancer, for New Scientist and The Times science column, as well as The Independent and Sunday Times.
